Assistant, the best Android assistant

Friday, March 22, 2013

Assistant is app created from the great team of Speak to it and is one of the best virtual assistants for Android. It was included in the best 10 apps of the year by New York Times, and was praised by many giants in the tech media world. I personally think that this is one of the best Android apps ever created.

What is Assistant?

Assistant is a virtual assistant similar and compared to the popular Siri used on iPhones and Voice Search from Google. We’re not going to compare Assistant to the other apps, we’re just going to present what Assistant can do for you and you decide which is better.

First of all this app is available in 5 Languages: German, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. If the shake feature is ON, then you can just shake your phone and the Assistant will show up to help you. Also you can edit the look of your assistant and here is how my assistant looks.

What can Assistant do?

It can Talk with you

It can do small talk and can say something about itself. Here is what I got for my question “Who are you?”

Find things on internet

It can do general search on Google, search on specific sites, find images, places and news.  Here is what I got when I wanted to see pictures from Eifel Tower and when I wanted to find “Friends” on IMDB.

Answer Questions

Answer questions about famous and historic persons, weather and it can also do basic math. We asked what is 840 divided by 40.

Perform Tasks

Speak to it Assistant can do some cool jobs for you. It can call people for you, send texts, send emails, update statuses on Facebook and Twitter. Additionally it can organize your calendar, tasks and notes. And not only that, it can play music and videos, open specific websites, open applications, translate, navigate and check in. Pretty cool right? I wanted to translate “You are awesome” in Spanish, here is the result.

Read

It can read your text messages.

Configure things on your phone

You can change your phone settings, meaning you can turn on/off your Bluetooth, Wi Fi, Airplane Mode and Synchronization. Also you can search for News using your News apps, search for places using Trip Advisor for example and assign nicknames to contacts. I turned my Bluetooth on.

Notify you

You can set any kind of reminders like I did for finishing my article.

For the other features you’ll need to upgrade. It costs $3 a month and $20 a year, which is not that expensive. Try it and have fun!
