Android App of the Week – Gift Card Project
Friday, May 26, 2017
More than 550,000 people experience homelessness on a single
night in the United States, according to the 2016 Annual Homeless Assessment
Report published last November. As cell phone use proliferates within the most
vulnerable population, developers have begun creating apps that address the
needs of the homeless. The goal of these apps is to either connect altruistic
users to resources or bring vital resources like shelters, rehabilitation
centers, or food pantries directly to homeless people.
What is Gift Card
Project?
Today we have one of those apps which are meant to help this
group of people who need our biggest help. We’re talking about Gift Card
Project, an Android app that requires Android 2.3.3 and up and works for both
phones and tablets. It’s actually more of an idea, movement and national effort
meant to encourage others to bring together the homeless and those who help
them.
How it Works?
Gift Card Project works very simple. All you have to do is
download the app on your device and carry it with you - each day carry with you
$5 gift cards to fast-food restaurants and be on the lookout for the homeless.
Unlike other apps, this one lets you have a real conversation with the person
you’re helping. The Gift Card Project app helps the homeless in a practical way
while also reminding them of their own dignity, which is not depleted because
of their current state. Join this amazing goal, download the app for free from
the Google Play Store.
