App Review - Bring Fishing Fun and Grandpa Home – in an App
Thursday, September 17, 2015
Parents and teachers alike look high and low for apps that help in the educational process, whether it be in the classroom or at home. If you are a lover of the Grandpa series of apps that entertain while teaching valuable life lessons, then be sure to download the next installment – Fishing with Grandpa!
Fairlady Media has outdone themselves again by creating a fishing app that lets kids experience the fun of a fishing trip with Grandpa. No one knows fishing like Grandpa, among other things. He’s always been there with insightful stories, tricks and wisdom that not only apply to fishing, but to life in general. Kids can now partake in the fun and wisdom while learning how to fish and playing a few games.
As kids play games, Grandpa is there to provide guidance and encouragement. He also imparts a few random facts and suggestions that help kids come to conclusions and realizations on their own. Something crucial when educating them.
Games offered in the app include:
· Fishing – kids get to pick their gear, put it together, cast the line and wait for a bite. All of this teaches a variety of skills; and when kids get frustrated, Grandpa is there to smooth things out and nudge them along.
· Puzzles – every so often, there are puzzles to fix that let you piece together pictures of fish or other various items that might be found underwater.
· Measure – kids get to measure how their captured fish is. They can then take that skill and apply to real life.
· Pattern recognition – kids are shown a group of items and asked to identify which one is different from the rest. An important skill that goes a long way in life.
· Counting – Kids are asked to find a group of items that contain a particular number of items.
Kids will get a kick out of playing this app, and will never get bored. As they master certain levels in each game, the game changes a bit to become more challenging, advancing on to the next skill. Parents can also change settings in the app to dictate how often a child must perform certain tasks or exercise before moving on to the next level – to help define a level of repetition appropriate for the child’s learning level.
Speaking of changing settings, this app offers a great deal of control for parents and teacher so that they can prevent access by kids to change these settings. Sounds, volume and other items can be blocked from access by the child, so things don’t get out of hand.
This app doesn’t have much wrong with it. It has kept my child occupied at times when I needed a little help; and the bonus is that he does not come away from it in frustration, as he does with so many other gaming apps. He comes away feeling calm and in control. I would hope to see more exercises and games added to it as future versions release, and look heartily forward to them.
Download Fishing with Grandpa today, your kids will love it, and so will you!
